    • 1). Turn off the MIDI controller and synthesizer. This step may not be required by every controller or synthesizer. In general, it is a good idea to turn off electronic music equipment before plugging or unplugging devices. In some cases you can generate unpleasant noises that could damage the speakers if you do not.

    • 2). Connect one end of the MIDI cable to the MIDI Out port on the controller. This port will usually be clearly marked. It is quite common for MIDI controllers to have both a MIDI In and MIDI Out port. You must plug the cable into the MIDI Out port to control a synthesizer.

    • 3). Connect the other end of the MIDI cable to the MIDI In port on the synthesizer. It is common for synthesizers to have multiple ports. The cable must be in the MIDI In port to function properly.

    • 4). Turn on the MIDI controller and synthesizer. The two devices are now connected and ready for use.
