How to Replace the Throttle Body in a Ford Focus
- 1). Be sure the engine is completely cool before starting this procedure. Take the negative battery cable from the terminal and isolate it.
- 2). Remove the accelerator cable and the retaining clip, then disconnect the speed control cable and the air cleaner outlet tube. Disconnect the electrical connector for the throttle position sensor (TPS).
- 3). Lift out the throttle body. Remove the gasket and discard it. Clean any dirt, debris, carbon deposits and old gasket material from the gasket mating surfaces. Take care not to damage any of the surfaces.
- 4). Set the throttle body in place with a new gasket. Torque the fasteners to 84 inch pounds.
- 5). Reconnect the TPS electrical connector and the air cleaner outlet tube. Install the speed control cable, the accelerator cable and the retaining clip.
- 6). Attach the battery ground cable to the terminal. Start the engine. Test all connections and make sure the engine is operating.
