How to Test Glow Plugs on a 2000 7.3L Ford Power Stroke

    • 1). Park your 7.3-liter Power Stroke Ford truck and turn the engine off. Allow the truck to cool down for half an hour or until components are cool to touch.

    • 2). Open the hood of the truck. Disconnect the battery by loosening each battery cable. Unplug the electrical wire that plugs into the glow plug. Disconnect one glow plug at a time so wires do not get mixed up.

    • 3). Connect one of the electrical test light leads to the positive terminal on the truck battery. Touch the opposite lead to the glow plug. The light will illuminate if the glow plug is good. If the glow plug is faulty, the light will not illuminate. Replace a faulty glow plug immediately for maximum engine performance. Repeat these steps for each glow plug to determine the faulty plugs.
