How to Install a T-Top on a Boat

    • 1). Measure the width of your boat at the control console. Place the uprights of the T-top frame so the frame is positioned over, but does not interfere with, the controls. Trace around the outside of the frame's feet and mark the location of the mounting holes with a carpenter's pencil.

    • 2). Drill the frame-mounting holes in the deck. Place masking tape on the deck around the outline of the frame's feet. Spread a thin layer of adhesive marine caulk around the mounting holes and inside the masking tape, using a narrow-blade putty knife. Spread another thin layer of the adhesive marine caulk on the bottom of the frame's feet.

    • 3). Position the T-top frame. Secure it in place with the screws provided with the T-top and a screwdriver. Do not tighten the screws tightly. Allow the adhesive marine caulk to cure for 24 hours before removing the masking tape. Tighten the screws fully and remove the masking tape.

    • 4). Place a level between the horizontal members of the frame and the console. Mark the location where the torpedo level touches the console. Drill a hole in the console at that point. Install the frame's side standoffs between the console and the frame. Repeat for all the T-top standoffs.

    • 5). Lace the canvas to the top frame, starting at the front, center of the frame. Push the lace --- supplied with the T-top --- downward through the grommets in the canvas and pull the lace back and up to the next grommet. Secure the lacing and, with an assistant, lift the top to the frame. Secure the top to the frame with the screws provided.

    • 6). Attach the top frame to the upright portion of the frame, using the screws supplied with the T-top.
