You're driving in your vehicle with some friends and you smell something unpleasant.

So before accusing your friends or loved ones of stinking up your vehicle, consider checking your cabin air filter, which differs from the engine air filter in that it filters ambient air which is passed to the interior compartment, whereas the engine air filter filters ambient air that passes to the engine.
This filter helps eliminate odor and filters allergens and should be replaced every 15K to 20K miles depending on where you live.
If you live in an area that has a lot of construction, this could dirty our air filter very quickly and should be replaced at shorter intervals.
Follow the steps below to replace your cabin air filter: 1.
Open the hood and prop.

Between the engine compartment and the windshield is the plastic cowling covering the filter.
Remove the clips holding the cowling and remove.
3.
Remove the filter and inspect.
If it's covered in dirt and dust, go ahead and replace, otherwise it won't need replacement.
4.
Install new filter.
5.
Reinstall cowling and push in the clips that hold the cowling down.
Close the hood.

A)filter inside the vehicle, follow these steps: 1.
Open the front passenger door.
Open the glove compartment.
2.
Remove the cable holding the door and swing door down towards the floor.
3.
Remove the filter cover.
4.
Remove the filter itself and inspect it for dirt and dust.
If it is very dirty, go ahead and replace it.
If it only has a light dusting, you can reuse it.
5.
Install new filter.
Reinstall the cover.
6.
Attach cable to glove box door.
Close glove box.
