How to Change the Valve Cover Gaskets on a Jaguar 4.0

    • 1). Remove the valve cover to engine head retaining nuts. These nuts are located around the perimeter of the valve cover.

    • 2). Pull the valve cover off the head of the engine.

    • 3). Remove all of the old gasket material from both the head and valve cover mating surfaces with a razor blade.

    • 4). Clean the mating surfaces with engine degreaser and a shop rag.

    • 5). Apply RTV sealant to the mating surfaces.

    • 6). Set the gasket on top of the engine head. Make sure the gasket is oriented properly. It will only fit one way.

    • 7). Press the valve cover to the engine head and tighten all valve cover retaining nuts.
