How to Replace the Front Brake Pads on a 2004 F-150
- 1). Shove the wheel chocks against the front and back of the right-rear tire. Turn all the F-150's front lug nuts counterclockwise to loosen them.
- 2). Lift the F-150's front end with the floor jack. Support it on jack stands.
- 3). Remove the F-150's front lug nuts and wheels by hand. Set them off to the side.
- 4). Place the drop pan below the F-150's left-front brake assembly. Wash all the brake dust off the rotor and caliper surfaces with brake cleaner.
- 5). Remove the left-front brake caliper bolts with your socket set. Lift the caliper out of the caliper bracket and then remove the old pads from the caliper manually. Discard the old pads.
- 6). Clean the inside of the brake caliper thoroughly with brake cleaner. Apply white lithium grease to the caliper slide pins.
- 7). Retract the brake caliper pistons with the caliper piston tool. Insert the new brake pads by hand.
- 8). Lower the caliper back into the bracket. Bolt it back in place with the socket set.
- 9). Repeat steps 4 through 8 on the F-150's right-front. Put the front wheels and lug nuts back on the F-150 by hand.
- 10
Take the F-150 off the jack stands with the jack. Torque the front lug nuts to 140 foot-pounds with the torque wrench.
