How to Save an Audio Book to a Hard Drive or an MP3 Player
- 1). Place the audio book's first CD in the computer's optical drive. Click "Cancel" if Autoplay catches it.
- 2). Double-click the desktop icon for your CD-ripping software to open it. Alternatively, click "Start," then "Programs," then select your CD-ripping software from the programs list.
- 3). Click "Preferences" or "Settings" in the CD-ripping software. Type the audio book author's name in the "Artist" field and type the audio book's title in the "Album" field.
- 4). Click the drop-down menu next to "Format" and select "MP3."
- 5). Click the drop-down menu next to "Bitrate" and select "64 kbps." You may select a higher bit rate if you wish, but higher bit rates mean bigger files.
- 6). Click the drop-down menu next to "Channels" and select "Mono." You may have two channels (stereo) or more if you wish, but for an audio book a single channel of audio encoded at a low bit rate will sound just fine.
- 7). Click "Destination" or "Output Folder," navigate to the folder on your computer where the ripped MP3s should be stored and click "OK." If there is not a folder for them already, click "Create New Folder," type the name of the audio book in whatever format makes the most sense to you, and click "OK."
- 8). Click "Start" or "Import" to begin the ripping process. Wait until it is finished. The audio book will now be saved on your hard drive.
- 9). Double-click "Computer," navigate to the folder where the tracks from the CD have been ripped, right-click the first track and select "Rename." Add "01 01" before the given track title, meaning "Disc 1, Track 1," and do the same for the remaining tracks, adding "01 02," "01 03" and as many as necessary. This way, on players that do not support ID3 tags and instead sort alphabetically by track title, all your tracks will still be in order.

Follow all the previous steps for each disc of the audio book. Create a new folder for each disc or put everything in one folder. - 11
Plug one end of the USB cable into your MP3 player and plug the other end into a free USB port on your computer. The computer should automatically detect the player. - 12
Double-click "Computer," then double-click the MP3 player icon to enter it. - 13
Click "File," then "New Window," and navigate to the folder where the audio book is stored. - 14
Click and drag the folder containing the audio book over to the window where the contents of your MP3 player are displayed and drop it into the appropriate folder. In most cases, this will be the folder labeled "Music." Wait for it to copy, and the audio book will now be saved on your MP3 player.
