How to Build Trout Lures
- 1). Cut a 6- to 8-inch length of small diameter wire with wire cutters. Clamp the wire with a pair of small needle nose pliers with the jaws of the pliers located 1 inch from an end of the wire.
- 2). Slide a hook onto the wire and down to the jaws of the needle nose pliers. Bend the wire around the nose of the pliers and the hook with a second pair of pliers. Bend the end of the wire around to the main wire. Wrap the free end of the wire around the main wire to lock it place. Remove the needle nose pliers and a loop will be formed with the hook secured in place.
- 3). Slide two or three beads down the wire. Choose metal, glass or plastic beads that will provide weight and flash for the lure.
- 4). Insert a U-shaped clevis through the hole in a small Colorado spinner blade. Slide the lure wire through the small holes in the U-shaped ends of the clevis. Place one or two more beads of your choice on the wire above the clevis.
- 5). Clamp the wire 1 inch or so above the top bead with needle nose pliers. Form a loop as before by bending the wire around the needle nose and secure around the main wire. Cut excess wire from the free end with cutters once the free end of the wire has been wrapped and secured around the main wire. Remove the needle nose pliers from the loop.
