Randell & Schippers - Alice In Wonderland

Actually owing almost nothing to the Lewis Carroll classic from which the song takes its title, Randell & Schippers's "Alice In Wonderland" instead is its own story-song about a fairy from the clouds whose father goes broke and is forced to send her down to earth to earn her own way in a gritty urban environment. The song stands out for its quirky interplay between 'Alice' and a male vocalist who takes on the role of a number of humorous characters in this yarn including the narrator, the King, the Jive Turkey, the Do-Good Stranger, and the male background chorus.

Given the novelty nature of the lyrics, "Alice In Wonderland" works best in the Allen Jungle Mix where the vocals are contrasted over a deep throbbing track of surging basslines and pounding drums reminiscent of Deep Dish's epic style- making it a great bridge record for filling in a transition from a more pop-oriented vocal set into dubbier underground selections.
