I found out about this campground through a Web search, and I tent camped there in August 2006.
Describe your camping trip:
This was a hugely disappointing campground. Despite reserving months in advance and confirming our reservation the week before, we arrived mid-afternoon to find the entire area jam-packed. Whether it was RVs or tents, the so called numbered sites were a joke, with up to five tents per individual site.
We were placed in the "Riverfront Green Area," which was the overflow camp area. We were assured that this location was very private. This was absolutely laughable, as it was just as crowded as the rest of the area, and it was also under half a foot of water. A protest with the management earned us an above ground tent site in the end. It was a horrible experience - crowded beyond belief and enjoyment, with a real shortage of fire pits. While, amazingly, the majority of the campground seemed to quiet down significantly at nightfall (possibly because of a lot of families with small children), we were smashed in between the loudest, most annoying group of twenty-somethings we've ever encountered. The park wardens did nothing to control the noise, which could be heard from all around, and therefore we had an incredibly unrestful and frustrating evening. We packed up and left at 5:00 am.
Pros: The showers at 5:15 am were hot, and the bathrooms rated a fair in cleanliness at this hour. There are several amenities, such as mini-golf, driving range and waterslide.
Cons: Impossible to take advantage of any amenities because of overcrowding.
Nearby attractions: City of Fredericton, where some much needed wine was found.
Further comments:
By far, the worst accommodation/travel experience ever, and this is after years of travel and roughing it just about everywhere, even Africa.
