How to Identify Lead Paint Hazards
- 1). Understand the Definition of a Lead Paint Hazard
According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), a lead paint hazard is deteriorating lead-based paint (cracking, chipping, chalking, peeling, or damaged). If the lead paint hazard is in an area that children can chew on (window sills, door frames, doors, stairs, railings, porches, etc.) it is EXTREMELY important that this hazard is removed!
Important Note: ALL houses built before 1978 were painted with lead-based paints. If you house was built before 1978, it is a high probability that your home contains lead hazards. - 2). Get Your Home Tested by a Professional
