Kiss Collectibles: The Casablanca Singles Box Set

103 7
Back in the early 1970s a heavy rock music phenomenon was born in the shape of the band Kiss.
They'd soon becomes the self-styled "hottest band in the word" with their outlandish costumes even more bizarre make-up and stage personas to add to the image and mystique was it all about style over substance or was there more to it than that? Help to make your mind up with the Casablanca singles boxed set collection.
Any Kiss fan will want this, for anyone not so sure or the collector this is a great opportunity to see what all the fuss was about and add a well put together package to your vinyl collection.
Kiss was the first band signed to the (then) fledgling Casablanca label.
The world had seen nothing like Kiss before with Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Ace Frehley and Peter Criss causing a stir in rock music circles with their bombastic sound and love of the theatrical.
From their first album in the mid-'70s their association with Casablanca for the next ten years or so would see the label issue what would become the band's classic output with albums such as Love Gun and Destroyer to name but two.
Very clued-up business wise too, the band would develop and cash in on their popularity with a vast marketing machine and accompanying merchandising for all things Kiss.
This added significantly to the bands' coffers and there was hardly anything you couldn't get back then which wasn't emblazoned with a Kiss logo.
Some were of the opinion that the hype distracted from the music though the die-hard fan won't hear of that and for those who can't decide or just want a fine slab of Kiss classics then the singles box set could be what you need to make your decision.
The package features the entire 29 set of Kiss singles originally released by Casablanca during their tenure, some of which had slightly different mixes to the album versions (to add to the collectability) or didn't appear on albums at all.
Now, for the first time, the collection is available together in one superb box set which includes the singles seven inch vinyl format in the original artworked picture sleeves and a 36-page booklet featuring previously unreleased photographs.
Take a step back in time a listen to some of Kiss's finest recording output as it was first unleashed over thirty years ago.
Love Gun, Strutter, Rock and Roll All Nite, Flaming Youth, Shout it Out and a whole lot more are all there.
There are even a few singles of the Kiss members' solo albums which, in a clever marketing ploy, were all originally released on the same day.
Casablanca records and Kiss did much to set the template for the American heavy rock/metal scene of the '70s and this collection of seven inch vinyl singles is a unique opportunity to hear how that came about through the trend-setting band's classic period.
Still active, recording and touring today Kiss continues to be a major draw approaching their fortieth anniversary of their first album though may never better the original Casablanca era as this singles collection box set demonstrates.
