Will - I found this campground on the Illinois Department of Natural Resources Web site, and I tent camped there in June 2004.

Campground Review

The trails around the campground were very cool. The scenery experienced on the trails consisted of great greenery, including fernes and towering boulders and cliffs. Hence the campground's name: Ferne Clyffe. The facilities were adequate (showers included).

The campground layout was spacious for each campsite. The campground employees were very nice. The lookout near the start of one of the trails close to the campground was really cool. The waterfall that's on one of the trails in the park wasn't running due to the lack of rainfall, but hopefully when you visit it will be shortly after a rain so you can see it in action. I hope to see it in the future. Also on the premises is a lake that has a nice view. Overall I would recommend this to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend away that still offers some hiking trails that aren't too strenuous. It's about two to three hours from St. Louis.
