How to Format XP Pro With Recovery Disc
- 1). Insert the Windows disc into the computer and restart. Press any key to boot from CD when prompted to do so.
- 2). Allow a few minutes for Windows to begin initial preparations for reloading, then choose to install a new copy of Windows (if asked).
- 3). When presented with a list of partitions, press D to delete each of them (you may be asked to press Enter after doing this) and L to confirm your choice. When you finish, the only option available should be "unpartitioned space."
- 4). Press Enter, then choose to format the disk using the NTFS file system. This may take several minutes; do nothing until Windows reboots.
- 5). Enter your product key, time zone and time, name and any other information Windows prompts you for. The precise order and types of prompts will vary depending on the specifications for your machine.
- 6). Connect to the Internet once you reach the desktop to activate your copy of Windows using the onscreen instructions; if you are unable to do this, you can also do it over the phone. The activation program will provide instructions for this.
