How to Change the Line on a Closed Face Spincast Reel
- 1). Mount the reel on a fish rod for better control of the reel when respooling with fresh line.
- 2). Push the button on the back of the reel until it locks.
- 3). Unscrew the conical cap off the front of the reel.
- 4). Pull the old line off the reel until you reach the spindle. Cut the line from the reel with a pocketknife.
- 5). Guide the end of the new line through the hole on the conical cap, pushing the line from the outside of the cap to the inside.
- 6). Wrap the line at least three rotations around the reel spool and tie off the end with an overhand knot. Clip the excess line with your pocketknife 1/2 inch from the knot.
- 7). Slide the reel cap over the line and onto the threads of the reel body. Twist the cap clockwise to secure it to the reel.
- 8). Turn the handle on the side of the reel clockwise to lock the spindle in the retrieve position. The button on the back of the reel pops out.
- 9). Crank the reel handle clockwise at a steady pace, about one rotation per second, to load line on your reel. The reel capacity varies with the rated weight of the line; for example, you can spool more 10-lb. test line onto a reel than thicker 15-lb. test line.
