Do it Yourself Aquarium Tank Canopy
- 1). Measure the width and length of your aquarium top.
- 2). Cut the 3/4-inch by 4-inch boards so that they are a couple inches longer than the dimensions of your aquarium top. The canopy should slip easily over the tank--these boards will be the basis of your frame.
- 3). Build the frame with the 3/4-inch by 4-inch boards and wood glue. The front and sides should stand vertically, but the back board should be secured horizontally just below the top of the side boards and inside the frame.
- 4). Attach three of the 3/4-inch square rods horizontally to the inside of the frame on the front and side panels, just 3/4-inch above the bottom of the boards. These will secure the canopy on the top of the tank.
- 5). Attach the last square rod to the outside of the back panel (the horizontal one). This square rod should stand vertically, with its bottom even with the bottoms of the other square rods.
- 6). Cut the lid out of 5/8-inch plywood, with edges that extend just beyond the frame. This is to keep the lid from falling through.
- 7). Attach 1-inch molding to the front and sides of the aquarium.
- 8). Use hinges to attach the lid to the frame.
