Do you know where you stand with Google? Envy the guys who are always #1 in the search results? Local businesses can obtain very high search engine rankings, even #1, from Google for free.
Why would you want that? When someone in your local city searches for your product or service, in Google's Local Search Results they will be offered local businesses that provide the products and services that they want, the subject of their search.
For your local business the very prospects that you most desperately want and who are most likely to buy from you, are right there.
Yes, Virginia, Google does know where you are, scary, eh? Basically there are three types of search results in Google.
1.
Paid Results are highlighted as paid ads and usually appear in a yellow-shaded area at the top of the search page.
If you are like me, you ignore them! 2.
Organic Results often are directly under the paid ads and have a white-shaded background.
For sure these are very valuable, but the problem is that for very popular search terms your small business does not have much of a chance to be ranked #1.
3.
Local Results are the ones associated with a Google Map and are listed with A, B, and C locators on the map and in the search results.
To get on the Local Search Results you must complete a Google Places listing; you can find Google Places by going to Google and search "Places.
" For businesses with an address, you can list the business for free.
Now you need to go for the fold, in Local Search that means the A ranking, the first one on the list of results.
To receive the top listing for your local Google Search Result filling out the Google Places form completely is a must.
But even then you may not get you the coveted "A" listing.
Secrets to get top Local Search rankings: Offers- In the form you can post offers from your business.
I have found that filling in a special offer boosts the ranking significantly.
Videos- Google loves videos, they bought YouTube after all.
So if you have a video about your business and what you do, post it on your Google Places listing.
Reviews- Have clients, vendors, and friends fill out a review for your business.
I send my reviewers a link to the exact location where they can complete the review quickly and easily.
Locations- Be sure to complete the locations section if you serve customers from adjoining communities.
Try it out, the listing is free and will take minutes to complete.
