    Prevention

    • Nexium is given to prevent ulcers caused by infection or irritation caused by the use of medicines like aspirin and Tylenol.

    Additional Medications

    • Doctors may use two or more medications for ulcer treatment. Antibiotics like amoxicillin and clarithromycin kill the bacteria and a medicine like Nexium reduces acid in the digestive system.

    Nexium Side Effects

    • Side effects common to both Nexium and antibiotics include abdominal pain, diarrhea, and headache.

    Antibiotic Side Effects

    • Additional side effects of antibiotics may include abnormal taste, indigestion, nausea, and vomiting.

    Allergic Reactions

    • Mild allergic reactions may include rash, itching, and wheezing. Severe allergic reactions may present as hives; difficulty breathing; chest pain or tightness; swelling of the mouth and face; hoarseness; fast heartbeat; flu-like symptoms; skin blisters; bruising or bleeding; tiredness; or low blood pressure.

    Medication Reactions

    • Always tell your doctor about severe medication reactions and tell her if you take Plavix, Lanoxin, Valium, Nizoral, HIV or AIDS medications, iron, or a blood thinner before you take a Nexium/antibiotic regimen.
