How to Troubleshoot a Headlight on a 2001 Hyundai Elantra

    • 1). Open the fuse-box panel under the dashboard. Slide the teeth of the fuse puller (located on the panel of the fuse box) over the end of the fuse for the headlights and pull out the fuse. Check to see if the the fuse has popped. If the fuse is OK, put the fuse back in. If it has popped, you'll need to replace it.

    • 2). Open the hood and unplug the electrical wiring running to the headlight ballast bulb.

    • 3). Check the wiring for fraying or other damage. If it is damaged, you'll need to have the system serviced by a professional mechanic. If the wiring is OK, go to Step 4.

    • 4). Turn the headlight ballast counterclockwise to unlock it and pull the bulb from the headlight housing. Examine the bulb's filament but do not touch the glass. If the filament is broken or burnt, replace the bulb with a new one.
