How to Put Shelves on Pegboard
- 1). Cut a 1x4 to any shelf size desired. Sand the edges of the shelf to remove splintering wood.
- 2). Position the 1x4 to the section of pegboard where the shelf will be installed. Align the 1-inch side of the 1x4 to a line of holes in the pegboard, draw a mark with a pencil one inch in from both ends of the 1x4 shelf that line up perfectly with the holes in the pegboard. Add a mark in the center in addition to the two on the ends if the shelf will be supporting a lot of weight.
- 3). Insert a 1/4-inch bit into a drill press or hand drill and drill a hole at each pencil mark. The holes should be as deep as the pegboard hook is long. Do not drill all the way through the 1x4.
- 4). Push a 1/4-inch pegboard hook into each hole on the shelf. Hook the shelf to the pegboard holes.
- 5). Place a level on top of the 1x4. Bend the hooks as needed to level the shelf. Put the shop tools and objects on the shelf and make sure that the shelf can hold the weight.
