Lodge Type Decorating
- 1). Add a basic wall color or texture to the room. Wood paneling is a classic approach for the lodge look. Alternately, paint the walls in earth tones for a softer, subtler look. Use nature-themed wallpaper for an easier look; you will have to do less decorating, since your wallpaper will already have images of trees, big game or other lodge elements.
- 2). Decorate the walls. Use antlers, moose heads, bear rugs and other hunting trophies if they are available. Put up other hunting and fishing artifacts, such as lures, poles and antique rifles or swords.
- 3). Purchase lodge-style furniture. Over-stuffed couches with funky, checkered upholstery, simple or handmade wooden stools and chairs, and bench seating all evoke the lodge aesthetic. Use mismatched throws, assorted pillows and handmade blankets to dress up the furniture.
- 4). Add lamps that evoke the lodge aesthetic. Place simple wooden lamps, antler lamps and lamps with outdoor themes around the room. Lamps made from other objects, such as bowling pins or wooden pails, will add to the look.
- 5). Add other decorative objects to suggest backwoods living. Decorate with antique spindles, cigar store Indians, carved wooden signs and anything else that seems to fit on tables or on the floor in corners of the room.
