How to Make Home Study Courses With Audio and Workbooks

    • 1). Write a marketing plan. It will allow you to see your goals clearly so that small setbacks along the way become inconsequential. Your plan should describe customer benefits, marketplace positioning, target market, advertising strategy, budget, tools to reach your audience and a monthly timetable.

    • 2). Outline the course workbooks so your project doesn't become a hodgepodge of information on the page. It doesn't have to be a particular format, just something that orders the writing process. Your outline should also make writing the workbooks easier because you will have a solid plan to follow.

    • 3). Gather research material. If you're writing about a method that you've developed, it's always helps to validate it through other expert sources that support it. It adds legitimacy to the course and clients will be more apt to trust the information.

    • 4). Write the workbook, following the outline that you created. Use a word-processing program such as Microsoft Word, Open Office or Lotus Symphony.

    • 5). Edit the book. Check for bad grammar and spelling errors. Design the front and back covers with a graphics program such as Adobe Photoshop or the free GIMP.

    • 6). Outline and write the audio script. The audio has to have the same organization as the workbooks. Whether it's an audio version of the workbooks or an expansion, you have to know what is going to be covered in each section.

    • 7). Record the audio. Use a quiet room. Plug the condenser microphone into the sound card. Open the audio editor and check the levels by speaking into it. The audio meter should be just below the 0db mark between -6db and -3db. Press "Record."

    • 8). Edit the recordings. Apply a noise gate to each audio file. A noise gate cancels any sounds under a certain threshold that you determine. Take out any breath sounds or noises that make it through the gate by manually highlighting them and replacing them with silence.
