How to Securely Clean a PC
- 1). The Disk Cleanup tool allows you to select various types of information to delete, such as temporary files and downloaded program files. Click "Start," then open "All Programs" and "Accessories."
- 2). Click "Disk Cleanup" inside the "System Tools" menu.
- 3). Wait for it to scan, check the boxes next to the data that you want to delete, then click "OK." If you haven't done this before, this process could take some time.
- 1). Clear your browser's search history, address bar history and other data by accessing the browser's control panel.
- 2). In Internet Explorer, click "Tools," then "Internet Options." Click "Delete" under the "Browsing history" section.
- 3). Alternatively, you can download a program such as CCleaner or Glary Utilities to automatically select and delete most of this information from multiple browsers.
- 1). The registry stores information about your computer's programs, documents and other system data. This can become cluttered and can store data that is no longer relevant. Use a free registry cleaner with CCleaner or Wise Registry Cleaner to scan and clean your registry.
- 2). There will typically be a "Scan" button in most programs. Click it to scan for any problems in the registry. You will need to open the "Registry" option in multi-functional applications such as CCleaner.
- 3). Select which problems you would like to repair, then click the button to fix the selected issues.
