How to Regrip a Fishing Rod
- 1). Remove the old fishing rod grip by cutting it away. Remove any glue residue that remains on the rod shaft.
- 2). Remove guides on the rod that otherwise would prevent you from sliding the pre-formed rod grip over the rod shaft (for most fishing rods this will only require removal of the guides on the lower section of the rod).
- 3). Slide the pre-formed grip down the rod to the point where it stops moving when light pressure is applied. Mark the point the bottom of the grip reaches, then slide it off the rod.
- 4). Apply generous amounts of expoxy glue to the rod. Begin about 2 inches above your mark and continue down to the spot where the bottom of the grip will rest once the grip is firmly attached.
- 5). Soak the grip in hot water for about 10 minutes.
- 6). Using both hands, slide the soaked grip down the rod until it reaches its designated position on the rod. Make sure the grip is properly aligned on the rod.
- 7). Remove any excess glue from the rod using acetone or an epoxy cleaner.
- 8). Once the grip is firmly attached, replace the guides previously removed from the rod. This can be accomplished by securing each guide in place with thread, then applying epoxy to the thread wrappings.
