How to Construct a Birdfeeder

    • 1). Empty a quart-sized milk or juice carton and rinse it thoroughly with water. You do not want any residue remaining. Stand the carton on the table in front of you. Choose any side and measure up 2 inches from the bottom. Make a pencil mark here.

    • 2). Draw a square 3 inches high by 3 inches across, making the base of the square pass through that pencil mark. Use the scissors to cut out the square. Repeat this step on the opposite side of the carton.

    • 3). Use the point of the scissors to punch a 1/4-inch hole in the carton 1/2 inch below the center of each square you just cut out. Push your dowel through one hole, making sure it goes through the second hole on the other side of the carton. This is the perch for the birds to stand on. It should stick out the same distance on each side to give the feeder balance.

    • 4). Fill the bottom of the feeder with birdseed. Stop pouring when you reach the bottom of the perch.

    • 5). Thread 4 inches of your fishing line through the eye of your needle. Poke the needle through the top of the carton at the tip of the triangle top. Feed the fishing line through the top of the carton and make a hole on the opposite side to bring the needle out. Pull the needle off the line. Use the fishing line to hang the birdfeeder on the tree branch of your choice.
