Football sales take a few different forms. School football teams may run a bake sale or another type of event as a way to raise money for new uniforms or for the team in general. Football sales also take place during the season or before the start of the season, when a store offers football equipment for sale. Regardless of what type you’re offering, you need to get the customers in and make them buy. Gimmicks for football sales ensure that your customers spend their money.

    Free Lessons

    • Offer free lessons for every person who buys something at the football sale. Get the local team involved and set up an area outside the sale where customers can see the boys practicing. Have the teams come dressed in their jerseys and excited about the event. Set a requirement to partake in the event, such as customers needing to buy $20 worth of merchandise, to receive their free lesson. Ask the players to pump up the crowd and get them motivated. Assign customers a player from the team and have the player give them lessons on passing the ball, catching the ball and even taking down other players.

    Offer Discounts

    • Give discounts to customers, as a way to entice them into spending more. Grocery stores and clothing stores often run a buy one, get one free promotion or a buy one, get one half-off promotion. Sporting goods stores can use the same type of promotion or even give out discounts on future purchases. For example, give customers a coupon for 10 percent off their next purchase of football gearwhen they spend a certain amount today. If you’re running a local event, such as a fundraiser for the high school football team, offer discounts to customers who spend a specific amount at the event or offer discounts later in the day, when you have fewer items available.

    Meet a Celebrity

    • Get a local celebrity involved in the football sale. Look for players who played in your immediate area or players from a popular local team. Customers receive a voucher to meet the player when they make a purchase. Some players require a merchandise table and charge a fee for their autograph or picture. Customers will still come out to meet the player and may make a few purchases from you while they are there.
