How to Remove Carbon Buildup in Deep Fryers
- 1). Pour the fry oil into a container. Dispose of it if it has already been used. Set it aside if it is new oil.
- 2). Fill the fryer with warm water.
- 3). Add several drops of liquid dish soap. Use a soap that will cut through grease. Mix the soap to combine.
- 4). Let the soapy solution sit in the fryer for at least an hour. This will help loosen the carbon stains.
- 5). Scrub off the carbon buildup with superfine steel wool. Superfine steel wool is an abrasive that is fine enough that it will not scratch your deep fryer.
- 6). Pour out the soapy water.
- 7). Repeat the process if the carbon buildup is still visible. Use coarse steel wool instead of using superfine steel wool. Test the coarse steel wool in a small area of the fryer to ensure it will not scratch the metal.
- 8). Pour out the soapy water and rinse it with clear water.
- 9). Let it dry completely before replacing the oil.
