How to Copy Photos to a DVD Using Windows XP

    • 1). Download and install a free CD burning application, such as CDBurnerXP, ExpressBurn or DeepBurner, if you don't already have a program on your computer for that purpose.

    • 2). Insert a blank DVD into your computer's CD/DVD burning disc tray. If you have multiple CD drives, the one with CD-writing capabilities will usually have an icon of some sort on the front of the drive tray. If any prompts come up asking you what to do with the blank CD, cancel out of the window; the whole process will be done using your CD-burning program.

    • 3). Open the CD burning program of your choice. Create a new project, and select "Data Disc" from the options available. A data disc is the burning procedure that will let you store data and view it in folders on the disc; an ISO or audio disc project sometimes will not let you view what is on the disc, but will open its content automatically in a program it thinks corresponds with the files on it. For example, if you burn music files to a CD with an audio disc, not a data disc, it will open a music program when you insert it instead of opening a window to let you browse the files.

    • 4). Select the photos you want to put on the DVD and add them to the list. Unless you're adding very large photo files or a large number of photos, you shouldn't have to worry about running out of space, but most programs will warn you if you have selected too many files.

    • 5). Select the CD-burning drive with the blank disc inside as the location for the burned files, then click "Burn" (or whatever button starts the burning process). Burning images to a DVD typically doesn't take long, but be prepared to wait a bit longer if your DVD is going to be full.
