Is your house freezing in the middle of November and your heater is on? Do you come into you living room on a summer day and its warmer than it is outside? You may need to check your heating and air system.
Sometimes your HVAC system may malfunction without warming, but there are some things you can do to have it up and running smoothly again.
Some simple troubleshooting will find the source of the problem.
Always remember to replace your used old or clogged filters.
If they haven't been changed in a while they could be restricting your unit's airflow, making your system work too hard to provide cool or warm air.
It may even prolong the time it takes to heat up your home even if it's turned on.
Be conscious of the condensation levels in your home.
A rise in humidity levels might indicate that your AC isn't working properly.
Clean the grille of your air vents.
Usually if the vent itself is matted with dust, it's an indication that your filter is dirty and needs to be replaced.
Monitor the air ducts and make sure they connecting junctions in you home.
Any holes or cracks can let excess air escape and force your unit to work harder to provide the desired temperature.
Air not coming on at all? A circuit breaker might have been tripped.
Usually found in your garage, find the box and reposition the switch in the on position to ensure power is returned to the circuit your system is on.
If you can't determine the problem then call a professional HVAC service to come in and check your system.
They will be better able to help you and may also find any further unknown problems.
