Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

• The National Women's Health Information Center states that PCOS reduces fertility because it causes increased amounts of male hormones, irregular periods and ovarian cysts. Gastric bypass corrects these abnormalities in many women, increasing their chances of getting pregnant.
  
  

Reduced Pregnancy Complications

• The National Women's Health Information Center states that women who become pregnant after gastric bypass surgery have fewer complications than their obese counterparts. They have the same risks as women in the healthy weight category.
  
  

Nutritional Deficiencies

• The Centers for Laparoscopic Obesity Surgery states that women who have gastric bypass surgery fare better than if they remain obese. However, because they may suffer from Vitamin B12 deficiency, pregnant women should make sure they are under a doctor's care.
