Overdubbing Different Amplifiers

• 1). Record your guitar part using one of your guitar amps. Make sure that you play everything correctly, or it will be very difficult to play a good sounding overdub.
  
  
• 2). Listen back to the part you recorded. If anything sounds wrong, you should rerecord the part now in order to save yourself from a headache later in the process.
  
  
• 3). Overdub the guitar part using a second amplifier. Again, make sure you play the part correctly. Even if the two amplifier sounds mesh well, your part will sound bad if you didn't play the same thing on each track.
  
  
• 4). Repeat this process until you have as many amplifier sounds recorded as you want. The biggest plus to recording guitar amplifiers this way is that each part will be totally isolated, and will be able to easily experiment with multiple amp mixes to find a sound that you really like.
  
  

Splitting Your Guitar Signal

• 1). Purchase a device that will split your guitar signal. Many effects pedals allow you to split your signal, but if you are serious about recording with multiple amps at once, you should look into Radial amplifier splitting products. Radial is the industry standard in guitar splitting technology.
  
  
• 2). Plug your guitar into whatever you are using to split your signal, and then plug the amps into the splitting device. Make sure the splitter and the amplifiers are working as they should.
  
  
• 3). Isolate the amplifiers you are recording with if at all possible. Recording by using a signal splitter will ensure that your guitar parts are exactly the same, but unless you isolate each amp, you will have fewer options when mixing the recordings from the amps.
  
  
• 4). Record your guitar part, making sure each amp is miked separately and one is not overpowering the other. If you are not wild about the recorded sound, scratch those tracks, tweak your tone and record new guitar tracks.
