How to Fish for Baracuda
- 1). Rig up for barracuda by tying a steel leader to the main fishing line or use a heavy saltwater swivel to connect the line and leader. Barracuda can sever monofilament and braided fishing line with ease, so steel leader material is essential if you want to land one.

- 3). Select a brightly colored tube lure for fishing. Tube lures are made of surgical rubber and come in many colors, with twin treble hooks hanging from the belly and rear. These lures resemble needlefish, a natural food for barracuda.
- 4). Tie a tube lure to the steel leader using a Figure 8 knot. Instructions for tying are linked in the reference section. This knot holds the lure securely to the steel line, which can be crimped or weakened when tied with more elaborate knots.
- 5). Cast the lure from the stern of the boat, letting the tube sink for 20 seconds, then begin a fast, jerking retrieval. Barracuda are among the fastest fish in the ocean and strike on the run, so prepare for a savage hit during the retrieval.
