How to Replace Rear Shocks on a Ford Escape 2001
- 1). Remove screws holding the rear quarter trim panel in place. Remove the panel and set it aside.
- 2). Remove the shock absorber's upper nut with a wrench.
- 3). Raise the rear of the Escape with the jack until the suspension is no longer under a load, and support the vehicle with jack stands.
- 4). Remove the shock absorber's lower nut with a wrench. Remove the shock absorber.
- 5). Reverse the procedure to install the new shock absorber. Torque the lower bolt to 85 foot-pounds with the torque wrench. Torque the upper bolt to 13 foot-pounds with the torque wrench.
