Keeping Cool All Summer Long

My ancestors helped to settle the area around Phoenix.
I can't imagine with all the clothing that the pioneers wore that they didn't just dissolve into a pile of sweat.
Long dresses, pantaloons, underdresses, lots of layers, high necks, long sleeve shirts for the men with heavy pants for protection.
Phoenix is hot, has been hot and always will be hot in the summer, well actually for a lot of the year.
I don't know how they stood the heat without air conditioning in Phoenix.
We are so spoiled now, if our car doesn't get to 60 degrees in minutes we take it in for a service and bam we are out the door cruising along in comfort once again.
My aunt lives in Phoenix and her house is only cooled with a swamp cooler, a totally inadequate cooling method in Phoenix, I can hardly stand to go visit her in July as I feel like my skin is just going to melt off my body.
We are more fragile specimen than our sturdy, robust ancestors were.
I admit, I am a whiner about my comfort level.
It is a small range, and for a Phoenix dweller, that is pretty good as the weather is nice most of the year, except summer.
I like it a little on the warm side during the day and the cool side at night.
Perfection looks like 70's during the day and 50-60's at night.
I use my air conditioning and heating in Phoenix most of the year.
I do love to open the windows at night though and let in the cool breeze and listen to the crickets chirp.
A HVAC in Phoenix is a must; keep that air circulating for the perfect temperature.
Are we weaker than our forebearers? I hope not, I would like to think we are as tough as those that went before, but probably not.
