How to Replace a Tail Light Fuse on an 86 Nissan 4X4 King Cab
- 1). Pull the hood release lever, then raise and properly support your King Cab's hood. Locate the battery and identify which of the two cables connected to it is the negative--the cable should be all black and have a small minus (-) sign next to it.
- 2). Loosen the cable's bolt with a socket wrench and remove it from the battery. Wrap the metal terminal at the very end of the cable completely with black electrical tape. Position the cable away from the battery and any other metal that it may contact.
- 3). Open the driver's door and kneel down so that you're facing the fuse panel. It mounts against the right side of the floor area just below the dashboard. The cover on the fuse panel has white writing on it and is also shaped like a rectangle.
- 4). Remove the fuse panel cover by popping it off the cluster of fuses beneath it. Identify which of the fuses power the tail lights. The third inscription from the right on the cover should say "TAIL LAMPS" and right underneath that it should say "ROOM LAMP." If you look above the writing you should see "15A," which identifies the fuse in the cluster.
- 5). Remove the third fuse from the right within the fuse cluster with a pair of needle-nosed pliers. The fuse pulls straight out horizontally. The fuse should be blue and have "15A" in white writing on top of it as well.
- 6). Install a new fuse of the same amperage "15A" back into the cluster by hand. Push down on the fuse with your thumb until you feel it fully seat itself. Replace the cover on the fuse cluster in the opposite manner of its removal.
- 7). Remove the black electrical tape on the negative battery cable's terminal and discard it. Connect and secure the cable back to the battery. Tighten the cable's securing bolt with your socket wrench until snug. Shut the hood and turn on the power to the tail lights to confirm that they work.
