How to Vacuum Seal Food for the Freezer
- 1). Prefreeze the food you want to vacuum seal. This is especially essential for liquid or powdered foods. The vacuum will try to suck out anything that isn't solid, so freeze items first in a plastic bag, on a pan or ice cube tray.
- 2). Blanche vegetables before freezing, then keep them in the bag while microwaving or boiling to preserve freshness.
- 3). Freeze meat in another bag or on a pan before vacuum sealing to prevent the sealer from sucking all of the juices out of the meat. This will help preserve flavor properly.
- 4). Place baked goods on a pan and freeze before vacuum sealing. This will help them retain moisture so you don't end up with dry, mealy muffins or breads.
- 5). Cut an appropriately sized bag from the roll of vacuum sealer bags. Leave about 3 inches of extra material for sealing.
- 6). Place one end of the bag into the machine and seal the end.
- 7). Fill the bag with food and place the other end into the sealer.
- 8). Press the button to vacuum out the air, and then seal the final end of the bag. The bag will form to the food inside and can now be placed back into the freezer.
