    • 1). Form a 6-inch loop in the end of your fly line by doubling back 12 inches of the line.

    • 2). Hold the tag line and running line together with the thumb and index finger of one hand. The tag line refers to the end of the fly line and the running line continues back to your reel.

    • 3). Roll the loop formed at the end of the fly line toward your hand holding the tag and running lines together and hold the loop in place by gripping the two strands of the loop with the tag and running ends of the fly line.

    • 4). Pull 4 inches of the rolled loop through your finger and thumb while keeping pressure on the tag and running ends of the fly line.

    • 5). Pass the end of the loop under, then through the loop you are holding with one hand twice. Pull slowly with both hands to lock the surgeon's end loop in the end of your fly line.

    • 6). Trim the tag end of the fly line to leave 1/8 inch of line extending beyond the end of the knot with the nail clipper.

    • 7). Repeat the process to tie a surgeon's end loop onto the end of your leader.

    • 8). Slide the loop on your leader halfway through the loop at the end of your fly line. Pass the raw end of your leader through the leader loop extending beyond the fly line loop and pull the raw end to complete the loop to loop fly line connection.
