How to Bait Shrimp With Bait Balls

    • 1). Set out at low tide.

    • 2). Mix mud from the river bank with fish meal until it is about the size of a softball. You will need dozens of these, depending on how much shrimping you are planning on doing.

    • 3). Stick the poles in the mud along the river banks, spacing them approximately 10 yards apart.

    • 4). Throw the balls into the water in front of the poles. The poles act as markers to let you know where the bait is.

    • 5). Wait until high tide, which hopefully will bring shrimp close to the banks. One person puts the boat in forward and cruises slowly towards the first pole and then puts the boat in neutral while the shrimper casts the nets over the water in front of the pole.

    • 6). Put the boat into reverse as the net sinks to the river bottom. Keep going slowly in reverse while the shrimper pulls in the nets that are hopefully full of shrimp.

    • 7). Repeat the process in front of each of the poles.
