How to Make a Tripod Deer Stand
- 1). Weld the 6-foot steel poles to the steel platform. Using a free-standing ladder and a few helpers, position one steel pole to a corner of the 2-by-2-foot steel platform and weld it in place. The second steel pole will need to be welded to a corner adjacent to the first. The steel legs should be angled slightly outward to create a tripod effect. The angle of the 6-foot steel poles to the bottom of the platform should be about 100 degrees.
- 2). Attach the ladder opposite the 6-foot steel poles. To create a tripod effect, the steel ladder needs to be welded to the flat bar on the steel platform. Standing between the two 6-foot steel poles, reach forward and grasp the flat edge of the steel platform directly across from the 6-foot steel poles. This is the flat edge of the platform where the steel ladder will be welded. Before welding the ladder in place, measure the angle to 100 degrees outward to match the angle of the 6-foot steel poles.
- 3). Cut and weld safety bars in place. Steel safety bars should be attached between each leg and the ladder. Safety bars are typically parallel to the ground, but criss-crossed bars can also be used for added stability. At 6-feet in height, one safety bar should be enough to support the tripod deer stand frame. One bar should be welded from the ladder to the nearest leg, that leg to the adjacent leg and from that weld back to the ladder.
- 4). Bolt the marine boat seat in place. After welding the legs, ladder and safety bars in place, the marine boat seat can be bolted to the top of the platform of the tripod deer stand.
- 5). Attach a safety harness. A safety harness can be attached to the marine chair or directly to the steel platform. The safety harness is important to keep the hunter in the chair or on the stand when hunting above the ground. Wind and the kick from a gun may be forceful enough to push the hunter off the top of the tripod deer stand. Safety kits are available from construction equipment stores.
