How to Save a Variant as a Default
- 1). Open the resource-management software. The method for doing so varies according to the type of software you use and the specific network on which you operate. Typically you click a desktop icon and enter your security credentials when prompted by the local network.
- 2). Open the command input interface. The nature of the interface varies according to which program you are using, but you typically use a query form or workbook interface to execute resource-management commands.
- 3). Enter the command into the interface in the normal fashion, inputting the various variable values. Don't edit any of the default values.
- 4). Save the value of the variant as "variant." For example, if ordering a large amount of the same product, but sending amounts to different to sites, the product code and unit price, although technically variable are ostensibly default values for the purposes of ordering. However, since you are sending the products to multiple sites, the site code remains variable, to a degree. In such cases, save the product code and unit price as variable, but don't save the site codes.
- 5). Enter a description when prompted. Before saving, your resource-management software will ask for a description. Enter a term that describes the value as well as the parameter or factor being saved. For example "200k potentiometers; ceramic; large."
- 6). Select the "Use as Default." Typical resource-management software packages offer this function to accommodate frequently occurring variants specifically. Each time you open this same query form or workbook, the previously variable factors will be pre-entered as defaults.
