How to Grow Jade Cuttings
- 1). Cut off a stem cutting from the jade plant with a sharp knife. The cutting should be about 2 or 3 inches long, but even shorter cuttings propagate well. It doesn't matter if the stem is new or mature, as long as it is healthy looking.
- 2). Lay the cutting in a cardboard box for two or three weeks. This allows the cut end to develop a callus.
- 3). Fill a small clay pot with cactus potting soil with organic matter added to it. Examples of appropriate organic matter are manure, grass clippings and decayed leaves.
- 4). Place the cutting into the soil at about a 1/2 inch depth with soil that is lightly moist. Do not water it again for two or three weeks.
- 5). Place the pot in an area with bright sunlight. A south-facing window is an ideal location if the plant is indoors.
- 6). Water the new plant so it is wet, but not soggy, during the spring and summer. During the winter, allow the soil to dry out between waterings.
