How to Get Vocals Using Ableton Live
- 1). Plug an omnidirectional microphone into the audio input on a microphone amplifier. Connect the audio amplifier's output to a mixing board, via 1/8-inch-to-1/8-inch audio cable -- take note of the channel input you use for the amplifier. Connect your mixing board to your computer via another piece of 1/8-inch-to-1/8-inch audio cable.
- 2). Power on your mixing board. Raise the volume on mixing board channel that you plugged your microphone amp into.
- 3). Launch Ableton Live. Click on the program's "File" heading, and then select the "Open" option to load an existing project. Click on the "Session View" button.
- 4). Click on the "Create" tab at the top of the program. Select the "Insert Audio" track to create a new audio track to house your recording. Set your project's bars if they haven't already been set.
- 5). Click on the "Global Quantization" button at the top of the session view, and then select the desired amount of bars of music for which you'd like your project and recording to endure.
- 6). Click on the "Arm" button at the bottom of your new audio track. Click on the "Record" button on your new audio track to begin recording your vocal, and press the "Play" button in Session View's toolbar to play back your other tracks while you record your vocals.
- 7). Press the "Stop" button in the Session View's toolbar to end your recording and playback of your project.
