How to Make a Wooden Pedestal for a Washing Machine
- 1). Measure the width and length of the washer base with a tape measure.
- 2). Set up two sawhorses parallel to each other and about 4 feet apart. Lay the length of 2-by-4 across the sawhorses and mark off lengths 2 to 3 inches longer than the dimensions of the washer base. This will give the base a little extra room to hold the washer.
- 3). Cut the lengths of 2-by-4 with a circular saw. Ensure that the pieces are cut square so they will fit together easily.
- 4). Nail together the lengths of 2-by-4 to form a square. Pound two 8-penny nails into each joint with a hammer. Drive the nails straight so they do not protrude from the sides of the wood. Measure the outside dimensions of the square frame.
- 5). Lay a piece of 3/4-inch plywood across the sawhorses and use the circular saw to cut a square the size of the dimensions you took from the frame.
- 6). Place the piece of plywood evenly on the frame and pound nails around the perimeter every 6 inches. Ensure that you pound the nails at a 90-degree angle and that they insert into the edge of the 2-by-4s. Place the pedestal on the floor in the desired location for the washer and set the washing machine on top.
