How to Use a Bottom Bouncer

    • 1). Select a bottom bouncer rig with a weight in the 1/2- to 3/4-ounce range. Attach the rig to your fishing line with a Trilene knot. Form the knot by feeding several inches of line through the eye in the middle of the rig.

    • 2). Loop the line around and through the eye once again. Do not pull the loops tight, but leave them somewhat loose. Bring the free end of the line up and wrap it around the main line three times. Turn the end of the line down and through the two loops formed around the eye of the rig. Moisten the knot and pull down tight.

    • 3). Insert the point of a Kahle hook through a minnow just behind the dorsal fin. Slide the hook through from the side and out the opposite side. Attach the hook to the snap on the short end of the bottom bouncer rig.

    • 4). Cast the bouncer rig out into the water and allow it to settle to the bottom. Start the motor of the boat and slowly pull the rig along the bottom. The rig is designed to bounce along the bottom while keeping the minnow suspended off the bottom.

    • 5). Maintain a tight line and pay close attention to vibrations in the rod that may indicate a strike from a fish. Set the hook by raising the rod tip slightly and reeling down on the line. Maintain a tight line while playing the fish and reel the fish into the boat.
