    • 1). Click "Start." Type "Computer Management" in "Search."

    • 2). Click "Computer Management" in the "Programs" section of the "Search" results.

    • 3). Click the small, right-pointing arrow next to "Storage" on the left side of the screen. This will turn it into a small, downward-pointing arrow which will reveal an option called "Disk Management." Click "Disk Management."

    • 4). Look through the listing of existing partitions and hard drives in the top portion of the window until you find one with the status of "Unallocated." This represents a portion of your hard drive that isn't being used for any particular purpose. Right-click on this listing.

    • 5). Click "Format." In the window that appears, choose a size for your partition. At the same time, choose a letter that Windows will use to recognize this partition. Click "Finish."
