How to Install ATI Drivers in Fedora
- 1). Open a terminal window which is found under the "System Tools" section of the main menu.
- 2). Type the command "su -" to become the root user.
- 3). Type the command "rpm -Uvh http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/free/fedora/rpmfusion-free-release-stable.noarch.rpm http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm" to install the RPM Fusion software repository.
- 4). Type the command "yum install kmod-fglrx" to install the ATI drivers.
- 5). Type the command "init 3" to shut down the graphical interface (X server). This will log you out of the system and provide you with a text based interface.
- 6). Log in as the root user.
- 7). Type the command "fglrx-config-display enable" to enable the ATI driver.
- 8). ype the command "new-kernel-pkg --mkinitrd --update $(rpm -q --queryformat="%{version}-%{release}.%{arch}\n" kernel | tail -n 1)" to rebuild the kernel. This ensures that no conflicting drivers are enabled during the boot process.
- 9). Type the command "reboot" to reboot the computer.
