Direct mail. Does it work?
Direct Mail
Think Direct mail is a thing of the past? You might be right especially with the advance of technology and the Internet. I challenge you to take a moment and think about who is choosing to advertise through bulk mail and why they continue to insist on this being one of there main advertising tactics.
About once a week I open my mailbox and always find a small newspaper from the local grocery store. I must admit that I appreciate knowing who has the lowest prices on certain products, also I appreciate a business who has taken the time and effort to bring this information to me. When it comes to local businesses such as the grocery stores, I believe that Direct mail on a continuous bases is a must.
Here are somethings to consider about Direct Mail.
1, Targeting the right people, for example a company who sells luxury jewelery should definitely know the higher income communities and market to them. No one in government housing projects is going to be running to the jewelry store for a $10,000 ring.
2, Cost to produce the mail outs. Although I believe in supporting local business and in this case print shops. I also believe that my money must be appreciated by anyone trying to get it. With that said, if a company in china is going to charge me five cents for a flier and a company here in Canada wants 50 cents then from a professional point of view, I would be absolutely crazy to do business with anyone charging ten times what others will.
3, Relevance. The grocery store knows I have to restock on groceries a lot more often than I have to buy a new car. Lets face it, if we don't have food in our homes then we are not going to be around for a lot longer. Keep it relevant people and know the way your customers are thinking.
4, Be ready to accommodate new business or even returning business from your efforts, your customers expect great service regardless of how busy you are. Make an effort to prepare your staff for the increase of business.
I hope my article has given you a better idea about Direct mail and maybe even helped you in your marketing strategy.
Thank you

Luck is or those who believe winning can happen by accident. Hard work is for those who know its a choice.
