Installation Instructions for a Dishwasher Drain Vent

    • 1). Mark the spot on the counter for the drain vent tower, using a pencil. It should be within 6 inches of the edge of the sink for proper operation. Many drain vent kits come with a template that you can lay out on the counter above where the dishwasher will be installed to assist you in planning.

    • 2). Drill the appropriate size hole in your countertop. On tile counters, first use a ceramic tile bit to cut through the tile, and then a spade bit when drilling through the wood base below. Use caution when cutting through laminate countertops, as too much pressure can cause the laminate to split and crack. Sand down the sides of the hole with a file.

    • 3). Insert the drain vent tower from beneath the counter until it pokes through the top. With your other hand (or an assistant if this is a big counter), screw on the drain vent retaining screw until it is flush with the counter.

    • 4). Connect the inlet on the drain vent with the drain outlet from the washing machine. Tighten in place with a hose clamp.

    • 5). Connect the outlet in the drain vent with the sewage termination for your dishwasher setup. In some cases, this will be the tailpipe just below the sink, or a garbage disposal. Secure in place with the second hose clamp.

    • 6). Screw the dishwasher drain vent cap on the drain tower, using a screwdriver.
