How to Adjust the Drag on a Penn 105 Reel
- 1). Mount the Penn 105 on the rod by slipping the front reel foot under the front shoe of the rod at the handle, then sliding the rear shoe up over the rear foot of the reel. Turn the locking nut clockwise on the rod behind the rear shoe to lock the reel securely to the fishing rod.
- 2). Run the line under the wire bail around the Penn 105 spool, through each of the rod guides and out the tip. Flip the wire bail on the reel to the locked position so the line cannot unspool.
- 3). Pull the end of the fishing line while adjusting the knob on the top of the Penn 105 clockwise. The black knob is the drag adjustment. Turning the knob clockwise will tighten the spool and make it more difficult for line to unwind. Turning the knob counter-clockwise will loosen the drag setting, making it easier for the line to peel off the spool when pulled.
